Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Day-only garments rely on fluorescent fabric, which works while there is daylight and stops working when there is not. Day/night adds retroreflective tape, which returns headlight and worklight back to the driver.

Most construction sites specify day/night, and the practical rule is that a day/night garment is accepted where a day-only garment is not, while the reverse is never true. If you are buying one shirt, buy the taped one.

Until it stops performing, which is usually well before it stops looking wearable. Fluorescent fabric fades with UV exposure and washing, and retroreflective tape degrades with abrasion and heat far faster than the fabric around it.

A practical check: if the tape has gone dull and no longer flares brightly under a torch in a dark space, the garment is no longer doing its night job even though it still looks like hi vis.

Reinforced stitching at the front and back rise, because that is the seam that fails first, and a knee that is either double-layered or panelled. Cargo pockets are worth having if you carry tools in your trousers and worth avoiding if you do not, since they catch on things.

Length options matter more than people expect — Regular, Stout and Long are leg and seat variations on the same waist size, not different sizes.
