Frequently asked questions

What do Regular, Stout and Long actually mean?

They are leg and rise variations on the same nominal waist size, not different sizes. Regular is the standard in-leg; Long adds length for the same waist; Stout adds room through the seat and thigh without changing the waist number. Do I need taped work pants, or is a taped shirt enough?

It depends on the site, and the site's PPE rules will say. As a general rule a taped shirt satisfies upper-body visibility and taped trousers are specified separately where there is vehicle movement at low level — car parks, roadworks, yards. If your site specifies both, a taped shirt alone will not pass.

What does GSM mean and why does this page barely mention it?

Grams per square metre — the fabric's weight. Higher is tougher and hotter, lower is cooler and wears out sooner; around 310gsm is a heavy Australian work drill. We barely mention it because only one of these five publishes the figure, and we are not going to estimate the other four.

Will cotton drill work pants shrink?

Preshrunk drill, which is what the Original is, has had most of it taken out before the garment is made. Expect very little from a cold wash. Hot washing and tumble drying will still take some length out of any cotton pant, which is worth knowing if you are already at the top of a size.

Are stretch work pants less durable?

Not inherently, but the trade is real: elastane blends and stretch canvas panels are placed where you move rather than where you wear through, and the panels themselves abrade faster than heavy drill. What size should I order?
