High-Quality Women’s Hi Vis Workwear For Safety & Comfort

Women's high visibility clothing is a safety essential in the trade industry. Whether on construction sites, during road works, or in industrial settings, a worker’s visibility can prevent accidents and keep them safe.

Visibility is enhanced in low-light settings by using bright, neon colours and reflective materials in workwear.

Is Hi Vis PPE?

Hi vis clothing is commonly used in industries where a lack of visibility can impact safety. This workwear is considered a critical component of personal protective equipment (PPE) and helps to prevent workplace accidents and injuries.

Australian Standards For Hi Vis Women’s Clothing

In Australia, hi vis workwear is a mandatory requirement across all trade industries. The AS/NZS 4602.1:2011 Standards categorise hi-vis workwear into three main classes: Class D for daytime use, Class N for nighttime use, and Class D/N for both day and nighttime use.

How To Choose The Right Hi Vis For Your Industry

There are three high-visibility classes: low-impact, medium traffic/low visibility, and high traffic conditions.

Both pink hi vis and blue hi vis are not legal PPE in Australia.

Class 1: Low-Impact Conditions

Class 1 is the lowest level of hi vis classification and is typically used by parking attendants, delivery drivers, and roadside assistance staff members in low traffic areas.

Class 2: Medium Traffic/Low Visibility Conditions

Class 2 hi vis clothing is suitable for working near heavier traffic and in low visibility areas on roads where the speed limit is less than 40mph.

Class 2 hi vis vests are typically worn by airport workers, and parking or toll booth operators.

Class 3: High Traffic Conditions

Class 3 hi vis applies to sleeved tops, such as hi vis ladies bomber jackets and long sleeved shirts.

Class 3 hi vis is for those who work close to high-traffic areas, including construction workers, emergency responders, railway workers, and utility crews.

Tips for Cleaning Hi Vis Clothing

To clean your hi vis clothing:

  1. Wash hi vis garments separately in cold water
  2. Use mild detergent, avoiding bleach and fabric softeners
  3. Turn garments inside out to protect reflective tape
  4. Air dry or tumble dry low

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Australian safety standards, such as AS/NZS 1906.4:2010 and AS/NZS 4602.1:2011, mandate the use of hi-vis clothing across many industries.

This Standard concerns a garment’s design, material, and performance requirements. It outlines how a garment should be designed in order to meet Class D, Class N, and Class D/N.

The colour of hi vis clothes you should wear depends on your industry and the specific environment you are working in. The most common colours are yellow and orange.

Look for the care label usually sewn inside the garment. It will have symbols indicating the recommended washing temperature, drying method, and any ironing restrictions.

Try pre-treating the area with a gentle stain remover before washing for minor stains. For more stubborn stains, use a professional dry cleaner.
