The Importance Of Wearing A High Visibility Jacket At The Workplace

Bisley has developed a range of men's high visibility jackets and women’s high visibility jackets, for when the weather turns cold and potentially hazardous low-light conditions prevail. In such scenarios Bisley’s winter range of high vis clothing (take a look at their high vis pants, hoodies and jumpers) has you covered.

Australian Standards For Hi Vis Clothing

‘AS/NZS 1906.4:2010’ refers to the use of high visibility workwear for outdoor daytime use for road traffic control purposes, and to the minimum luminance factor for retroreflective and fluorescent colour material.

‘AS/NZS 4602.1:2011’ refers to how high visibility workwear is designed for high risk applications such as hi vis workwear worn by people who may be exposed to moving traffic, moving plant or equipment in high risk situations.

‘AS/NZS 4399:2017’ is for high visibility workwear with UPF or ultraviolet protection.

Internationally, ‘EN ISO 20471’ is the new standard for high visibility clothing.

3 Classes Of High Visibility Clothing

There are three classes of high visibility clothing:

  • Class D workwear is for daytime use only, and provides the wearer with high visibility under daylight conditions.
  • Class N workwear provides high visibility in the dark when viewed under retro-reflected light, such as vehicle headlights. To meet night compliance requirements the reflective tape must be a minimum of 50mm wide.
  • Class D/N workwear meets both the day and night requirements.
