Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Drill is a tightly woven cotton with a diagonal twill line. That weave is what gives it its durability: the diagonal lets threads sit closer together than a plain weave, so it resists abrasion and tearing while staying breathable.

It is the default for Australian workwear because it wears in rather than out. A drill shirt gets softer and more comfortable with washing without losing much strength.

Cotton breathes better and is more comfortable in heat. Poly-cotton holds colour and shape longer, dries faster and creases less.

One important exception: if you are near fire, arc or hot work, poly-cotton is the wrong choice. Polyester can melt and stick to skin. In those trades, buy flame resistant garments specifically rather than choosing on comfort.

A little, mostly in the first few washes, and mostly in length. Most Bisley drill is pre-shrunk so the movement is modest, but it is real.

Wash cold and line dry to keep it to a minimum. If you are between sizes and buying pants where the in-leg matters, the size guide is worth a look before ordering a set.
