Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Because it is the one part of the garment you put your body weight on, and you do it against concrete, gravel, steel deck and whatever is lying on top of them. Nothing else on a pair of trousers takes load and abrasion in the same place at the same time.

That is why knee construction is worth more than heavier fabric everywhere else. Look for a second layer over the knee, or a panel shaped with its own seam so the fabric is not pulled flat across the joint every time you go down.

All three carry the same waist measurement — what changes is the leg and the seat. Regular is the base. Long adds inside leg. Stout adds room through the seat and thigh.

So if a pair fits at the waist but pulls across the seat when you crouch, Stout is the answer rather than the next waist size up, which just gives you a gaping waistband and the same tight seat. If it fits everywhere but bunches on your boots, take Long.
