Long sleeves, which is counterintuitive until you account for sun exposure. Agricultural work is among the highest UV-exposure occupations in the country, and a lightweight long sleeve shirt in a ventilated fabric is cooler in direct sun than a t-shirt is.

Look for mesh or eyelet ventilation through the back and underarms, which is what makes a long sleeve survivable when the temperature is high.

Not usually as a legal requirement on private land, but it is worth it wherever there is machinery movement, other operators, or roadside work. Being seen by someone reversing a tractor is the same problem as being seen by a driver, and the consequence is the same.

Many agricultural operations adopt it as policy for exactly that reason rather than because a rule requires it.

Separately from everything else, and separately from any flame resistant garments you own — contamination with oils, fuel and chemical residue is itself a fire risk on FR clothing. Shake off loose dirt before washing rather than letting it grind through the fabric in the machine.

Skip fabric softener on anything with a water-repellent finish, because it clogs the finish and stops water beading.
